Fake News Devaluing Efforts of Deputies

Some news outlets published articles on their websites that question the seriousness of deputies regarding their contribution to the Special Fund to Fight the Coronavirus COVID-19 by one month of their monthly compensation. The articles referred to the matter as “mere media propaganda.”

In this respect, the House of Representatives confirms that it withdrew, last month (March 2020), the equivalent of one month out of the deputies compensation, following the resolutions of both Houses of the Parliament on the contribution to the national efforts of our country to limit the impacts and risks of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Also, the House of Representatives would like to point out that such fake news does undermine not only the efforts of deputies but also the credibility of the noble journalistic work. The House calls on these outlets, and other platforms, to observe the code of ethics of journalism and verify the veracity of information before its publication while acting with caution and objectivity.

The House would also like to recall that its communication services are available to all media platforms to facilitate the access of journalists to correct information.

In the meantime, the House of Representatives maintains the right to take all necessary measures if certain news outlets pursue their campaign of defamation of the legislative institution, devaluation of its action, and distortion of public opinion. However, the House would like to commend the valuable work carried out by professional press to inform citizens in conformity with professional ethics.
