Cairo: House of Representatives Takes Part in the Meeting of the African Union's Scientific, Technical, and Research Commission

<p style="text-align: justify;">Chairperson of the Social Sectors Committee of the House of Representatives, Rep. Hamid Noughou, took part in the meeting of the Scientific, Technical, and Research Commission of the African Union, held on August 21 and 22, 2023, in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The meeting, which focused on the theme "An Africa free of viral hepatitis," was an opportunity for the participating parliamentarians, experts, and academics to discuss views and exchange experiences on this subject of major importance, requiring political leaders to find adequate and radical solutions to combat this disease and mitigate its repercussions, particularly in Africa.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In this context, the participants gave a brief overview of viral hepatitis, its symptoms, and the resulting dangers, particularly in a global context witnessing an upsurge in successive health and pandemic crises. The participants were also unanimous in highlighting the difficulty of this deadly disease and the fight to eradicate it, which calls for joint efforts to raise the level of mobilization and alert among all political, economic, and health actors, as well as the relevant regional and international organizations and national parliaments, in order to contribute collectively and actively to mitigating its repercussions and advancing Africa's interests in this field.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In his intervention on this occasion, the Chairperson of the Social Sectors Committee, welcomed the Kingdom of Morocco's new health strategy under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, through the efforts deployed by all stakeholders in the sector to tackle viral hepatitis. In this respect, Rep. Noughou highlighted several laws passed by the Moroccan Parliament concerning the health and pharmaceutical fields, such as the Government bill on to the compulsory health insurance scheme and the Government bill on creating the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products. Rep. Hamid Noughou also emphasized the key role played by the Standing Committees through their exploratory missions, which have contributed through their reports to raising awareness of the dangers of deadly diseases, in particular viral hepatitis.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The Chairperson of the Social Sectors Commission also recalled the major responsibility of all actors, including parliamentarians, academics, and health experts, to find efficient solutions and work to promote national and local pharmaceutical industries.</p>
