Bali: House of Representatives Takes Part in Parliamentary Meeting on the Occasion of the 10th World Water Forum on May 19-21, 2024

<p style="text-align: justify;">Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohamed Ouzzine, took part in the Parliamentary Meeting on the occasion of the 10<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;World Water Forum, held on May 19-21, 2024, in Bali, Indonesia, on the theme: “<strong><em>Mobilizing parliamentary action on water for shared prosperity</em></strong>.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The Forum gathers governments, parliaments, multilateral institutions, representatives of the private sector and civil society, and the concerned parties to cooperate actively to address the global challenges related to water and achieve sustainable development in this field.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The proceedings of this parliamentary meeting featured plenary sessions that covered several timely questions, including consolidating parliamentary dialogue, promoting the importance of environmental questions, and exchanging ideas and best practices in legislation, governance, and sustainable development, particularly at the environmental level.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In his intervention during the plenary sessions, Rep. Mohamed Ouzzine underscored that the creation of alternatives and solutions requires a strong political will to work actively on drafting, enacting, and adapting laws to respond to the reality of water scarcity.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In the same vein, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives noted the essential role parliamentarians play through their national legislative institutions in continuously interacting and raising awareness on the questions linked to water. He also stated that the talk on climate change reflects the understanding of a grand challenge that faces all humanity, which necessitates a clear vision and an efficient work strategy to curb the repercussions of drought and climate migration on humankind.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Rep. Mohamed Ouzzine concluded his intervention by stressing the importance of joining efforts, exchanging best practices, coordinating positions, and acting efficiently to understand the changing nature of these threats and to work on investing in the capacities of parliaments on all levels. He also noted that the proper role of diplomacy lies in its ability to achieve water security for all.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">During the Forum's opening session, the Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, awarded the UN Food and Agriculture Organization the 8<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;Hassan II World Water Prize.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The World Water Forum has been held every three years since its first edition in Marrakech in 1997. It is a distinguished space that enables the exchange of experiences and knowledge and the convergence of visions on critical water-related issues.</p>
