Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Chinese National People’s Congress Conclude a Cooperation Agreement

<p style="text-align: justify;">Speaker of the House of Representatives Habib El Malki and Chairman of the Chinese National People’s Congress Li Zhanshu concluded on Thursday, September 16, 2021, a cooperation agreement between the two legislative institutions. The agreement aims to enshrine the mutual desire of both parties to consolidate cooperation and promote their bilateral ties towards further solidarity and consultation.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The partnership agreement between the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco and the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China establishes the non-interference in internal affairs and the respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity. The said principles are “the backbone of maintaining global peace and security.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The two parties commit to materializing the important understanding achieved by the leaders of the two countries, working on solidifying and developing the mutual political trust, and exchanging constant support on the questions related to the fundamental interests and major concerns of each party.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The two parties agreed on promoting communication between the legislative institutions and strengthening the friendship and cooperation bonds linking them to serve the common interests of the two countries. They also agreed on advancing cooperation between the Speakerships of both institutions, their standing committees, friendship groups and their administrative services; and on deepening cooperation in key questions like public health, security, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As embedded in the agreement, the two parties will pursue intense communication and cooperation at the regional and international parliamentary organizations and the other multilateral fora to coordinate positions on key issues and protect their common interests.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress previously held talks on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, where they commended the new dynamic marking the Morocco-China cooperation since the visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to China in 2016 and the conclusion of a strategic partnership agreement between the two countries. The two parties also agreed on institutionalizing cooperation between the two legislative institutions, intensifying the exchange of visits and expertise, reviving the action of parliamentary friendship groups of the two countries, and consistently consulting and coordinating in international parliamentary fora.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">On the same occasion, the Chairman of the Chinese National People’s Congress affirmed that the phone talks held between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, in August 2020 gave new impetus to the partnership linking the two countries, particularly in fighting Covid-19. The Chinese Official also announced that his country would provide Morocco with a significant number of anti-covid19 vaccines. In the same respect, he lauded the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the concrete progress made by Morocco in fighting the pandemic.</p>
